Today, after weeks of speculation, Wizards of the Coast announced they will be releasing Eternal Masters later this year. The set, which will be released on June 10th, 2016, will include some of the most sought-after cards from throughout the history of Magic, not unlike recent Modern Masters sets, only spanning a longer era.
This will undoubtedly be a great opportunity to acquire Legacy and other eternal format staples, and will hopefully drive prices down on those cards that are reprinted. No cards currently on the Reserved List (e.g. original dual lands, Power Nine) will be reprinted here, but plenty of eternal staple cards will be included.
Aaron Forsythe, Director of R&D for Magic, confirmed via Twitter that the set will include cards “from the vast history of Magic, although the focus is on pre-Modern stuff.”
According to Wizards, Eternal Masters is designed to be a unique and enjoyable Draft experience, much like Modern Masters. It will not contain cards from the Reserved List, but it will feature many exciting Eternal staples, including Force of Will (at Mythic Rarity) and Wasteland (with beautiful new art!):
MSRP will be $9.99 USD, and supplies will be printed in limited runs, similar to Modern Masters packs. A box of Eternal Masters will include 24 packs, and each booster pack will contain a premium (foil) card (as confirmed via Twitter by Trick Jarrett, Global Content and Community Manager for Magic).
What other cards are you looking forward to getting the reprint treatment here?
